Negative RPG Psychology

There are many positive and negative ways in which video games can affect other industries, however, there are also many ways that they can negatively impact their industry. Through the exploitation of mechanics from role-playing games (RPGs), the industry has found ways to make money mills that constantly churn out profits for little to no effort. This has led to the loot box mechanic becoming a reality in the world and making a harmful mechanic that exploits people with issues and children. Using flashing lights and messages to make individuals feel good, game companies have used tactics present in both RPGs and casinos to influence the minds of those who don’t know any better and force their consumers to either pay to win or fall behind in the video game curve. This predatory practice is by all accounts one that should be stomped out as a result of the harmful connotations present and one that people have spoken out against adamantly. The industry needs to change to develop new ideas and this is one that purely stunts growth as it creates infinite amounts of money for the company.
